Pat O’Bryan -was
the winning caddy on Chris DiMarco’s bag at the 2002 Phoenix Open. This
was Chris’ third win on the PGA Tour, and Pat’s second win with Chris.
Pat had experienced winning before on the Nike tour, and his first ‘official
caddy
win’ on the PGA Tour came on Chris' bag in 2000. Pat worked his way up through
the ranks of tour caddying with several different players over the
years. No doubt his experience was important on Chris’s bag
especially at this win in Phoenix, where they saw their four shot lead
quickly disappear on the back nine there on Sunday!
CaddyBytes.com -"And
who were some of the players you caddied for out there early on?"
CaddyBytes.com –"How does this win in Phoenix
compare to the first one in the end of 2000 in Philadelphia in your first
year caddying for Chris?" Pat –"This
one was a lot tougher, we had a 6 shot lead in Philadelphia. After 10
holes in Phoenix we had a four shot lead, then we made a double at 11, cut
it to two, we bogeyed 12 and Kenny Perry birdied, that erased our lead
completely and got us back to even. The we bogeyed 13, and he parred the
hole, which then gave Kenny a one shot lead. Then we birdied 14, which got
us back to even again. Then he birdied 15 to get one ahead. Then we
birdied 16 to get even, and then he bogeyed 17, and we both parred number
18 giving us the win."
CaddyBytes.com -In
the Phoenix papers the next day, Chris DiMarco gave his caddy Patrick O’Bryan
credit for helping him stay calm during the adversity around the back nine
there Sunday, and eventually on his way to victory in the 2002 Phoenix
