2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship Final Recap & Highlights

Austin Smotherman won the 2026 Butterfield Bermuda Championship, defeating Seamus Power with a par on the third sudden-death playoff hole Monday at Port Royal Golf Course. The scheduled final round was canceled after wind gusts exceeded 40 mph, leaving Smotherman and Power tied at 16-under 197 through 54 holes and sending the championship to a two-player playoff.

CaddyBytes 🏆 Final Recap: Sunday’s fourth round never began as heavy rain and wind gusts above 40 mph made play impossible. With more unfavorable weather forecast for Monday and no certainty that the full field could complete 18 holes, the PGA TOUR declared the 54-hole scores final. That left co-leaders Smotherman and Power to return Monday morning for a sudden-death playoff to determine the champion.

The playoff was contested on Port Royal’s exposed par-3 16th. On the first extra hole, Smotherman missed the green but recovered for par, while Power found the putting surface and missed a 21-foot birdie attempt. Both players made three, sending them back to the tee.

Smotherman reached the front portion of the green on the second playoff hole and judged a 75-foot lag putt beautifully, leaving a tap-in par. Power found the left greenside bunker but produced the sand save he needed. After two matching pars, the hole location was changed before the players returned to No. 16 for a third time.

On the deciding hole, Smotherman challenged the left side and hit the green, finishing about 14 feet from the cup. Power missed the green and could not get up and down, leaving Smotherman two putts for the title. His first putt stopped roughly two feet away, and he converted the comeback for par to close out the victory.

The win is Smotherman’s second PGA TOUR title in consecutive starts after his victory at the Bank of Utah Championship earlier in October. Power, the 2022 Bermuda champion, finished runner-up after beginning the week fighting to secure his status for 2027.

Leaderboard note: No fourth-round scores were recorded. The official tournament totals remained those posted after Saturday’s third round, with the playoff separating Smotherman and Power at the top.

Championship result: Smotherman and Power matched pars on the first two extra holes. Smotherman then made par on the third playoff hole, while Power made bogey.

Final takeaway: The weather eliminated the scheduled fourth round, but the championship still produced a tense finish. Three trips around the 16th were required before Smotherman’s controlled tee shot and two-putt par finally separated the co-leaders.

Tournament summary: Smotherman and Power shared the 54-hole lead at 16-under 197 after three rounds shaped by Port Royal’s coastal wind. When Sunday’s conditions forced the tournament to be shortened, they returned for a Monday playoff and matched pars twice. Smotherman stayed steady on the third extra hole, secured the title with par and completed a second victory in as many PGA TOUR starts.
