CaddyBytes 2026 Recap: Sunday at the Sony Open turned into a full-on birdie sprint, and Chris Gotterup flat-out refused to let anyone else steal the spotlight. With Davis Riley trying to protect an overnight lead, the pressure flipped the entire tournament when Riley stumbled with back-to-back three-putts and a costly tee shot that kicked off a monkey pod tree and into trouble. That crack in the door was all Gotterup needed. He rolled in clutch birdie putts, poured in momentum-building bombs, and kept the pedal down as the rest of the contenders — including Patrick Rodgers, who watched multiple putts cruelly lip out — couldn’t buy one at the wrong time. Gotterup’s stretch run was pure confidence, highlighted by a massive dagger putt late that effectively slammed the door shut. Playing the 18th smart and conservative, he sealed yet another victory and officially kicked off the season in style — proving once again he’s becoming one of the PGA Tour’s most dangerous closers when the heat is highest.
