Welcome to CaddyBytes.com’s Tournament's page for the 2016 Wells Fargo Championship golf tournament! The Wells Fargo Championship was a new tournament on the PGA Tour, (called the Wachovia Championship until the U.S. and world economy collapsed), which began in 2003 with a Spring venue and a new and revamped 'good old tract' -the Quail Hollow golf club in Charlotte N.C. Quail Hollow used to host the Kemper Open from 1969 to 1979 before it moved to a new location and was then host to a senior PGA Tour event in the 1980's. The golf course was revamped by Tom Fazio in 1997 and again in 2003 in preparation to host a modern PGA Tour event. The holes at Quail Hollow vary in direction keeping the integrity of the original George Cobb design (Cobb's best work being hilly golf course's with North Carolina his main canvas). Fazio blends Cobb's use of the hills, water, and change of direction with his new design changes making this a great test for today's playing professionals. Rory McIlroy who is a multiple winner of this event (twice) will be defending here this week.. |
