The Puerto Rico Open is in it's 9th year here in 2016 and is being played in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The tournament began in 2008 due to the advent of the FedExCup and change from Doral as a full field PGA Tour event annually held there for years which now concurrently hosts the WGC-Match Play Championship this week also in Austin TX. This tournament was being played at the Trump International golf club - and is being played this year as the Puerto Rico Open at Coco Beach. This is a week that a veteran might get a shot to restore a career in decline, as did Greg Kraft in '08' here and veteran Michael Bradley did here in '09' and again last year here and is the defending champion this week. The PGA Tour is moving towards a two tier system. This is part of the early stages of that reality which is being dictated by the internationalization of tournament golf and the marketplace. Don't think because of that status however that somehow this is a 'lesser' quality tournament. And many participating have had storied careers in golf and are still capable of winning at any time and at any venue they play ....
