Welcome to CaddyBytes.com’s Tournament's page for the 2016 FedEx St Jude Classic golf tournament played at the TPC Southwind golf course in Memphis, TN. Memphis Tennessee has hosted a professional golf tournament twice in 1945 -6 and then from 1958 to the present day. In 1970 Danny Thomas created a sponsorship with the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and under his tutelage and association that great charitable Memphis institution continues today to be the primary affiliated recipient of this annual PGA Tour event. In 1984 Memphis based Federal Express has been the primary sponsor of this event with a couple year exceptions to that. Al Geiberger shot the first 59 in competitive tournament golf at the old Colonial CC in 1978 winning this event. Notable winners also include champions Dave Hill four times, Jack Nicklaus, Cary Middlecoff, & Lee Trevino with Fabian Gomez the defending champion here in 2016. |
