Welcome to some history and the 2013 Field of Countries participating and their respective players follows:  (Scroll to see the 2013 Field of Players)

Joining the World Golf Championships is an important evolutionary step for the World Cup. The World Cup was a forerunner in the development of the game on a global basis since its birth in 1953. The event had visited 14 countries and crowned a distinguished list of champions, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Bernhard Langer, Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie and Roberto De Vicenzo.

Two dream-team pairings for the United States account for eight World Cup titles in the event’s 45-year history. Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus won in 1963-64 and 1966-67. More recently, Fred Couples and Davis Love III dominated from 1992-95. Tiger Woods has won the event twice, teaming with Mark O’Meara in 1999 and David Duval in 2001

The WGC World Cup joined the World Golf Championships series in 2000 and is run by the International Federation of PGA Tours.  The World Cup of Golf was won by the United States in 2000 by the team of Tiger Woods and David Duval played at the Buenos Aires Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The United States team had been comprised of Woods and Duval since then until last two years when the U.S. team of Jim Furyk and Justin Leonard finished a distant fifth in and again in 2004 when the U.S. Team failed to win again with Bob Tway and Scott Verplank on board.  The U.S. team also failed in 2005 and will try again this year with Stewart Cink back and teammate and newcomer J.J. Henry.

The field for the 2008 Omega Mission Hills World Cup of Golf will consist of two-man teams representing 28 countries. Eighteen teams are comprised of top players from the Official World Golf Rankings, while another six teams become eligible via a world qualifying competition held every October. The highest-ranked available players represent 18 different countries who then automatically gained entry into the field which was finalized in Oct. 2008.  Scotland is the defending champion here in 2008.
