Here's a picture of a couple pages from the Professional Tour Caddies Yardage Book measured and produced by *George Lucas for the Tournament Player's Championship at the TPC Stadium Course this week.  It's a side view of the cover on top with the par 3 island green 17th hole and par four 18th hole views underneath.  The yardage reference points are from sprinkler heads or stone blocks on par three's and give that number on the head in small print above it.  The larger print under the marking is to the front of the green.  The numbers drawn to arrows on #18 are distances from the back edge of the pro tee to those respective points in the distance.  The Pro Caddy will then enter in the number pacing it forward or back adding or subtracting and then adding in the day's pin yardage off his pin sheet.  It's a numbers game to start with, then, 'What do you think it's playing?'...And then the decision on what club to hit....

*George Lucas
has produced the PGA Tour yardage books for the past 25 or so years.  He is a former caddy and one of the pioneers in golf course yardage book development.  They are full of details that would probably confuse a novice but it's invaluable info in tournament golf at this level.  Though I give you a look at a hole here, this is not to be copied or sold to anyone.  George makes a living doing this tedious and often difficult task and this is his copyrighted information.  This is just to give you the golf fans a little 'inside the ropes' look at how the pro caddies go about it. If you are lucky enough to get to play a round at one of the tour stop courses, be sure to stop by the pro shop and purchase a tour quality professional 'Lucas Yardage Book' -it will only enhance your round!
