Welcome to
our tournament page for the new and now Champions Tour
Dick's Sporting Goods golf tournament
page! Formerly this was the site of the PGA Tour's Broome County Open golf tournament more commonly known as the
B.C. Open! The tournament was officially nixed from the PGA Tour's new
FedExCup schedule of events and has been reborn as a new senior tour event here
in 2008!
Endicott N.Y. and the En-Joie golf club have hosted the B.C.
Open as a 72 hole golf event on the PGA Tour since 1972. In 2006 the tournament was moved
due to flooding to the Turning Stone Resort and
Atunyote G.C. outside Syracuse, N.Y. where it will be held in the 2007 PGA
Tour's Fall Schedule of events.
The passing of Johnny Hart in the early Spring of 2007 also ends the association
of his name and comic strip character B.C. with this PGA Tour event.
However his legend lives on. Year's ago Johnny commissioned the
Professional Tour Caddies of America logo giving permission to use the B.C. golf
character as their namesake which it remains today.
Mr. Hart's art and fame have been behind the tournament and his comic strip
B.C. is all about the B.C. Open every year come tournament week. Back in
the late 1970' through the early 1990's top cartoonists would come for the Tuesday shootout and Wednesday Pro
Am. The B.C. Open was also the origin and host course for the annual Alex
Alexander Caddy Classic played every Monday following the tournament for 20 plus
years.
There have been some regional and notable former champions of the B.C. Open
including Hubert Green, Tom Kite, Calvin Peete, Mike Hulbert, Joey Sindelar,
Fred Couples, and John Daly to name a notable few.
The En-Joie golf club has gone through numerous changes over the years to try to
compete with tournaments of larger venue. Now with the Champions Tour
picking it up it's a great mix for those players and caddies due to the hometown atmosphere there that's hard to
find in the big city tournaments of today's tour.
R.W. Eaks won the inaugural Champions Tour Dick Sporting Goods Open in 2007 and
will be defending here in 2008.
